Feeling insecure? You doubt you are good enough for this.

In short

Feeling insecure means doubting whether you are good enough, wanted or able to cope. It often shows up in comparison, new situations or close relationships. Insecurity is common and does not say much about your real worth. It says that something feels uncertain and you would like solid ground.

How it differs

Worry is about what might happen, insecurity is about whether you are enough. Shyness is about social situations, insecurity can be about anything.

On the feelings wheel, insecure sits under anxious, next to worried, overwhelmed. Finer words for it: unsure, not enough.

How it can show up

  • You compare yourself a lot
  • You need reassurance and still don't believe it
  • You hold back ideas you actually like
  • You apologise more than needed

One small step

Write down three things you have handled before that once felt too big. Evidence from your own life quiets doubt better than a pep talk.

Box breathing: when your head is racing and you need to focus again.

A better question

Whose voice is telling you you're not enough? Is it really yours?

Ask it yourself, or someone you care about.

A sentence for your lock screen

“I am allowed to doubt and still try.”

Make it your lock screen or find it on the wheel.

Questions

Why do I feel insecure in my relationship?

Often because something feels uncertain or a past hurt is triggered. Talking about what you need, not what the other person does wrong, helps.

Does everyone feel insecure sometimes?

Yes. Even very confident people do. The difference is often only whether they let it decide for them.
